Adult T-cell A type of white blood cell that participates in immune responses by destroying harmful substances or cells. Also called intermediate-grade or high-grade lymphomas. There are thousands of lymph nodes located throughout the body, with clusters of them in the neck, under the arms, the chest, abdomen and groin.
ATL is usually a highly aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with no characteristic histologic appearance except for a diffuse pattern and a mature T-cell phenotype. ATL is frequently accompanied by visceral involvement, hypercalcemiaskin lesionsand lytic bone lesions. Bone invasion and osteolysisfeatures of bone metastases, commonly occur in the setting of advanced solid tumors, such as breast, prostate, and lung cancers, but are less common in hematologic malignancies.
Despite a number of therapeutic approaches, a cure for ATL is still in its infancy. Conventional chemotherapy has short-term efficacy, particularly in the acute subtype. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation offers long-term disease control to around one third of transplanted patients, but few can reach to transplant.

A total of infected persons had been reported by the end of We examined all new HTLV-1 diagnoses during the last decade and compared their clinical presentation. The incidence has remained stable with 20—25 new diagnoses yearly.
India is considered as a nonendemic region for HTLV Recent upsurge of cases have been noted in southern parts of India. The objective was to describe skin manifestations in various types of ATL.
With this type of NHL, the lymphoma cells are often found in the blood, so it is sometimes also called a leukemia. Acute ATLL is the most common subtype. The lymphoma cells are in the blood and the disease acts like an acute leukemia.
Hanson, MD; Marilyn L. Slovak, PhD; Thomas J. The leukemic cells were CD4 positive and showed clonal genetic rearrangement of the T-cell receptor complex.
However, the detailed mechanism of leukemogenesis remains unsolved yet, and the prognosis of ATL patients still poor because of its resistance to chemotherapy and immunodeficiency. InTakatsuki et al. This disease is characterized by its aggressive clinical course, infiltrations into skin, liver, gastrointestinal tract and lung, hypercalcemia and the presence of leukemic cells with multilobulated nuclei flower cell Figure 1.
