Old Fisherman's Wharf in downtown Monterey should be on the "must-do" list of every visitor to the area. This is a great place to take in the sights, sounds and smells of Monterey. Because neighboring Wharf 2 is the heart of the area's thriving fishing industry, you can usually watch the working trawlers unloading the catch of the day — just look for all of the seagulls hoping for a handout to know who's had a successful day on the Bay!
Monterey businessman Thomas Larkin was tired of getting his feet wet during cargo deliveries. That dinky wharf was slowly expanded by Pacific Coast Steamship Company before it ascended as a tourist attraction. Thomas, who leads monthly walking tours of the waterfront, carries on his keyring a clunky brass key — the key that was once used to change the train-track routes, directing visitors to Monterey.

Last Saturday, the IESL students went on the first planned activity of the Spring session: a glass bottom boat ride! We even got to handle some sea kelp, which apparently is great for the skin but gross to touch. It was a great introduction to the wharf and all it has to offer!

My husband researched Boat tours in Monterey Bay by studying leaflets and visiting websites although the website named in the bottom of the leaflet was unavailable before we visited and this tour seemed perfect for our family of 4 adults - affordable and not too My husband and 2 children, 13 and 10 really enjoyed this little boat ride. We did not expect to see any fish from reading other reviews so there was no disappointments.
Most Whale Watching tours last anywhere from hours and can be the highlight of your trip. And we took them again when they were 5 and then 8 and they loved it even more. And to be perfectly honest, I like the cruise as well. Chances are he was right!
