By bfactorJune 12, in Off Topic. So, for the past half hour or so I've been researching this on google, lol. From what I can tell, there are tons of places like this in Europe, and used to be in Japan as well, but are dying out in Japan now, but not dying out in Europe, or something.
I look at Sophie again and offer a sheepish shrug. Back in the day, saunas were shared among inhabitants of a single neighborhood or apartment complex, but readily available hot running water rendered these public spaces obsolete. Lately, however, renewed interest in sharing the steam with strangers has spurred a sort of sauna renaissance in Helsinki.
By Brentney Hamilton. Maybe you didn't notice the extra-chill vibes emanating from the GuideLive homepage on a recent Sunday. Cool, man, me too.

I'm looking to go to a German type sauna with my girlfriend and wondering where there is a sauna with a nude culture plus generally a younger crowd. All saunas in Switzerland certainly the German-speaking part are naked and mostly mixed there may be a reserved Damenzone for women only in larger spas, with the rest mixed. Swiss spas, like most European spas, are quite different from American spas. Nudity is taken for granted at Switzerland's famous Engadine Bad Scuola destination wellness, and therapy center in the resort town of Scuol known for its Roman-Irish baths. Nineteenth-century bathing culture combined these two styles in a single ritual.
Nothing new about being told off, as even liberal Berlin, to which I recently moved, is full of baffling rules. For the Germans, this is as normal as a trip to the supermarket. As in Scandinavia, saunas are revered here for their relaxing effects, circulatory benefits and power to make you sweat a pint in 10 minutes. They are also mixed-sex, and no bathing suits are allowed.
By Erin Porter. Spa visits are not a luxury but a necessity in Germany. The cornerstone of these visits is getting nude and sweating it
