I started Mencap in Weirdly enough I was volunteering and through this went to a day centre and saw how much of a difference people were making to the guys they were supporting with learning disabilities and decided I wanted to do the same but whilst I was at college; somebody recommended Mencap! The only experience I had of volunteering or working with learning disabilities was at a day centre for a day placement through college but this is it!

Foothold is a floating support service providing housing-related support throughout Nottingham city to families and pregnant women with housing-related support needs. The Moving Forward service provides support to people in Nottinghamshire who are experiencing mental health difficulties. We offer specialist support and accommodation to young people, aged 16 — 21 years, who are homeless or vulnerably housed.
Support will be given to carers with any problem in an effective and practical manner, by the most appropriate means, either over the telephone, email or home visits. Although I have enjoyed every aspect of my first year in training as a learning disability LD nurse and feel that I have gained a lot of professional and personal growth, aspects of my student experience have given me cause for concern on the future of learning disability nurses. This concern is echoed by my peers. Whilst on two varying placements as a student LD nurse, it was concerning to see that I only met one LD nurse, especially considering that both of my working placements were centered around the care of those with a learning disability.

We use our extensive employer engagement contacts to broker work placements to build up a bank of available placements your students can choose from; or work directly with specific employers in response to individual student need. We pass placements on to you, and you will match available SEND students into placements and support them in the workplace. We expect demand for work placements to outstrip supply on this project.
We provide two different day services, at locations across South Warwickshire and in Worcestershire too. Our Pathway programme offers fulfilling activities for people with learning and physical disabilities five days a week - in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Studley, Malvern and out in the community too.
